so it's been a while,
Hey everyone, hope you've had a great summer so far to all those in the northern hemisphere, and a great winter otherwise!
First I want to apologize for the lack of updates since December 2023. Production has been on hiatus for a couple months now because of stuff going on in my personal life. as well as just a lack of drive to keep going with Can Jump that plagued me for a couple months. Ever since that last devlog I made back in winter, a lot has happened. Without going into too much detail, they've made me focus on other things that I thought were higher priority, and so Can Jump kept getting pushed back, yet it still lingered in my head how lazy I am for not "locking in" and finishing this project I deemed to just be something small that I wouldn't spend too much time on.
Yeah I was wrong lmao
I won't lie, although the delay was caused by things like college and my personal life, another part was me just playing other games. I recently finished Final Fantasy III, the original one, not the SNES one which is just FF6, and it was pretty good! I truly got lazy in this regard, but Can Jump has always been something I do for fun in my free time, there aren't any stakes to it.
At least, that's what I thought a couple months ago. Lately I've been seriously considering a career in game development/design for my future, and if I want to seriously get started on that, I need something to show for it, for all the talk I spout saying I'd love to make a game someday. I want to break this habit I have of dropping unfinished projects and moving on too fast (like I did with my Pokemon ROM hack that I didn't even get farther than the first town in lmao). I want to change that, especially since Can Jump has always been in the back of my mind.
Who knows when I'll ever get more time in the future to experiment? Hell, I have university to worry about next year (if I even get accepted that is). I still need to improve my art a ton as well before I fall too far behind those other 17 year olds making crazy shit online and getting recognition for it. I can't even draw a head right yet before redoing the same sketch lines until it looks right 💀.
But I guess you gotta learn to crawl before you can walk, and you gotta know how to walk before you run. So that's what I'll try to do. I finally built a new PC to replace the decade old office PC I've had to endure with since I was little. It actually loads in my desktop in under a minute now! It's amazing! I'm genuinely so happy with it, and proud of myself for doing something I've wanted to do for years now.
Now to do the same thing with Can Jump, which I can now say is something I've wanted to do for over a year now! (god...) I only have about two weeks left of summer break before classes start, so let's get crawling!
I've talked a lot in this post😅 so uhhh, TLDR: Can Jump is not dead! Progress will resume starting this week!
Enjoy some bonus art I've made in the Pokemon GSC style I made to help get me back into making pixel art!
