Well looks like that didn't happen lmao
So I underestimated how difficult making music and sound effects would be considering the first public build of the game is out nearly a month late. I tried watching those music theory videos on how to make good music and I honestly cannot recall a thing from them. So I just decided to dive right in and thus I spent days working on one song at a time. I spent the most time on the boss theme, which is a shame since I did not expect the sound effects to interrupt it so much :(
Speaking of sound effects, its very cumbersome trying to make sfx for GB Studio. fx hammer is honestly kind of hard to use with the limited controls and screen size since it runs on a .gb file. I hope I can get the hang of it soon, since I anticipate I'll be needing more sfx for the future levels, or at the very least tweaking my pre-existing ones.
It feels strange that I spent so much time on this project only for it to be beatable within minutes (so far). Like I shouldn't have kept people waiting for just this. There's probably tons of bugs I overlooked too.
I think I'm being too hard on myself though, since this is my first solo game project ever
and my first couple of music tracks
and first sound effects
and first scripts of programming
and first attempts at level design and creating a platformer
There's a first for everything, and it just so happens becoming a game developer involves a LOT of those. I was only really experienced with art going in, and even then I'm still looking to improve in that area! I'm not gonna lie, it was very difficult in the first few months when I was overwhelmed with how much stuff I'd have to do and how many times I failed at literally everything. But I didn't let this project die. I've done that already with so many ideas that I've abandoned in the past.
And now Im too deep in to back out, so I'm gonna keep going! I don't have a set date for World 2, but trust me when I say it will come one day!
